Photos and Story by Mark Brown for Inside Lacrosse
It is the first thing that gets scheduled on my calendar each year: the Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Tournament. Ever since former Syracuse player Joseph Bonacci (a teammate of mine) said, “guys we have to play in Placid,” every August I’ve made the journey from Jersey to Upstate N.Y. as a member of TROG Lacrosse (Two River Old Guys).
It was only a couple of years ago that I started bringing my cameras to capture the action. Kevin and George Leveille, who run the tournament, have been very gracious in letting me take photos and try out different ideas with my cameras. When I heard the news about the MLL Legends game, I thought it’d be a great way to make the best tournament in the country even better.
A few weeks before LP, I was at a photography workshop listening to an instructor talk about an assignment they’d just completed in which the photographer did a “faces of baseball” piece. Right then I knew I had to try to put my own spin on that for the MLL game, so I grabbed my Leica and headed off to Placid.
