LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid will add yet another lacrosse tournament to its schedule in 2017.

Just one year after debuting the Lake Placid Summit Youth Classic tournament in June, event organizers will introduce the High Peaks Summit Classic in Lake Placid next summer. In all, Summit Lacrosse Ventures will host four events in Lake Placid in 2017, to include the inaugural High Peaks Summit Classic, the second annual Lake Placid Summit Youth Classic, the Northstar Invitational and the 28th Lake Placid Summit Classic, which is the flagship of the organization.

“We continue to expand our offerings in Lake Placid, because our customers from all over the nation see great value in the opportunity to play lacrosse and vacation in such a special place,” said Ashley Gersuk Murphy, Summit Lacrosse Ventures CEO. “We now host male and female athletes from age 7 to over age 65, across four weeks in the summer, and as we continue to build our programming, more and more families become lifelong enthusiasts of the village.”

Summit Lacrosse Ventures announced Monday the latest addition to their tournament lineup will take place June 24-25. The new High Peaks Summit Classic comes just before the youth classic, and will help Lake Placid kick off its busy summer season.

“The High Peaks Summit Classic is, in spirit, a regeneration of the original concept that put us in Lake Placid in the first place, back in 1990,” said Kevin Leveille, Brand and Event Director of Summit Lacrosse Ventures. “The original idea in 1990 was to invite the lacrosse community to the Adirondacks to play our beloved sport with the exceptional atmosphere of the High Peaks as the stage. That simple idea, which started with a modest seven teams and play over two days, has evolved into a seven-day, 250 team event with participation ages ranging from 16 to over 65. It’s big. And yet, we have to turn teams away due to capacity constraints.

“The High Peaks Summit Classic is set to accommodate the interest and desire of the over 18 and over 30 age groups to ‘play in Placid’ who have not been able to find their way into the August event while delivering the original boutique feel which is still so desirable. The HPSC will be limited to 36 teams and will be a great lead into the summer in Lake Placid.”

The High Peaks Summit Classic now brings Lake Placid a total of four lacrosse related events, with significant economic activity in the community.

“With the addition of the High Peaks Summit Classic and Invitational, the total estimated direct spend attributed to lacrosse will exceed $7 million in 2017,” said James McKenna, president of the Lake Placid-based Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism. “The new events, which include pre-fourth of July and midweek day patterns, combined with the success of the long-running Summit Classic, position Lake Placid as the lacrosse mecca of North America.”
