LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – As part of the continuing evolution of Summit Lacrosse Ventures (SLV) and its increasing level of activity with tournaments around the country, organizers have developed an accompanying Summit Lacrosse Society Code of Conduct that centers around the messages of camaraderie, competition and respect.
SLV has brought the Summit Lacrosse Classic to Lake Placid annually for nearly 30 years as well as the BRINE Northstar Invitational, Youth Summit Classic, and the brand new High Peaks Summit Classic. The Northstar Invitational is an elite development program for girls and will host its sixth annual event at Northwood School in July. The latter two tournaments will be held in late June in the two-time Winter Olympic village.
The Summit Lacrosse Society initiative acts as a reminder to everyone involved with SLV events why they entered the sport initially, and calls upon a greater responsibility to represent lacrosse in a favorable light.
“It is important to us that we not only continue to build the highest quality national lacrosse events and accompanying experiences,” said Ashley Gersuk Murphy, CEO of Summit Lacrosse Ventures, “but that we bring out the best in our participants, and that we make a valuable impact on all involved, to include our host communities. The three pillars of the Summit Lacrosse Society - camaraderie, competition, and respect - are virtues that have always embodied Lake Placid Lacrosse, but we look forward to championing the message in a more proactive fashion.”
The text of the code expands upon the foundation of those tenets:
Camaraderie: appreciate the tremendous and vibrant community of which you are a member. Build relationships for life. Enjoy good times and great people, in special places.
Competition: succeed to your greatest potential as individuals and teams, on and off the field. Compete fairly and with sportsmanship to advance the game and greater community.
Respect: people and property, yourself, your team, your opponent, your staff and officials, your venue and your host community.
“We feel strongly that the characteristics of the Summit Lacrosse Society, and of positive athletic experiences, translate directly into success in life,” continued Murphy. “If we embody these principles, on and off the lacrosse field, we will make an irrefutable impact on our game, our community, and the next generation of leaders. It is our responsibility, and that of all SLV participants.”
SLV’s busy tournament schedule commences in early 2017:
