LAKE PLACID — Summit Lacrosse Ventures is ready to bring a pair of developing tournaments to Lake Placid to help the village kick off its summer season. Both tournaments represent offshoots of the August Lake Placid Summit Classic, a mainstay in the village for the past 27 years.

Summit Lacrosse Ventures will  open with the inaugural High Peaks Summit Classic, Saturday and Sunday for adult men, some of whom have not been able to gain entrance to the August tournament due to capacity. The Lake Placid Summit Youth Classic, in its second year, runs June 26-28, and offers competition to boys in first through eighth grades in a festival atmosphere.

In June, SLV will roll out the Summit Lacrosse Society, a formalization of what Lake Placid Lacrosse and its founder, George Leveille, have embodied since 1990. Its mission is to promote the virtues of respect, competition and camaraderie among lacrosse tournament participants.

In July, SLV will host the sixth annual BRINE Northstar Invitational, an invitation-only girls’ development and recruiting showcase at Northwood School, and will then culminate its offering of local tournaments with the week-long Lake Placid Summit Classic July 31 to August 6. Now in its 28th consecutive year, the Summit Classic features divisions for boys and girls, as well as men and women up to Masters competitions.

“As the game of lacrosse continues its growth, we have an outstanding lineup of tournaments coming to Lake Placid,” said Ashley Gersuk Murphy, CEO of Summit Lacrosse Ventures. “We are very appreciative that the community has been so welcoming over all these years. We now host athletes from eight years of age to over 60, from across the country and beyond, in Lake Placid. We aim to create a community of lifelong visitors to the village, and take great pride in making a significant economic impact in the region.”

The annual Major League Lacrosse alumni game, part of the Summit Classic, will broadcast live on the Lax Sports Network at 5 p.m. Aug. 4 for the second consecutive year.

Games, in the two-time Winter Olympic village, will be played at the North Elba complex, located off Route 73 at Recycle Circle, along with the North Elba athletic fields and at Northwood School.
