Looking Ahead to Northstar's 9th year of Valuable Student Athlete Development

2020 marks 9 years since Northstar (NSI) was established, and while elements of the elite girls lacrosse camp have evolved alongside the lacrosse landscape’s evolution over time, its focus has remained the same – to provide a relevant and unparalleled experience for the athletes who have the opportunity to join the Northstar family, and the 30-year-old tradition of Lake Placid Lacrosse. NSI has become a mainstay on the girls’ lacrosse landscape by staying true to its core purpose: a unique, fun, and valuable experience, centered around high-level competition, purposeful curriculum, dynamic education, quality leaders, and a lasting supportive community.

NSI returns for its ninth consecutive year to the Northwood School in Lake Placid, July 27-30, 2020

Each July, student athletes arrive from all over the US & Canada (and the world!), to the historic Adirondack Olympic Village of Lake Placid, where the 1932 and 1980 Olympic vibes still resonate. What makes NSI athletes particularly special and refreshing is that they are passionate about the game of lacrosse, and equally focused on becoming better leaders, better teammates, and better students. Northstar athletes aim to be successful on the field, and in life, to grow and become more confident, and leverage skills and experiences afforded by lacrosse to shape their futures. Perhaps equally as important – Northstar strives to combine passion and talent with fun, looseness, and camaraderie. Isn’t that what it’s all about!? Are you a Northstar Athlete?

NSI’s dynamic curriculum is intended to maximize athletes’ experience and features small-sided and full-field games, with a focus on teamwork, chemistry development, and maximizing team-oriented success. Other elements include the Northstar Performance Index (NPI), Leadership & Bravery, Recruiting Process preparation, and Mental Fitness. In preparation for athletes’ recruiting process, NSI partner, SportsRecruits offers exclusive access to online presence and video coverage. Northstar’s partnership with “Brave” adds a highly energetic and positive dynamic (check out this fresh article from Brave Founder and CEO, Crista Samaras) to a holistic experience which supports Northstar athletes in their endeavor to be their best. Along with mental and physical fitness, wellness is another major factor in the success and sustainability of our athletes. Motive Pure returns as our official Hydration Partner, which is a perfect fit for our three-day curriculum in the generally ‘hot’ month of July! Alongside any athlete’s efforts to perform at their best, is best-in-class gear…Northstar’s exclusive partnership with Nike comes with a full custom NSI gear kit! Additionally, Nike will send a high-profile athlete to share on and off-field experiences and interact direclty with the athletes. Northstar aims for athletes to leave Lake Placid as more informed, motivated, and confident individuals, poised to make a positive impact as leaders.

“Northstar offers developmental and inspirational value to attending student athletes, who have been identified as high-quality leaders,” said Northstar co-founder, Ashley Murphy. “We revel in the opportunity to play a meaningful role in impacting the next generation, on and off the field.” “To see these incredibly talented athletes come together from all over the US, Canada, and beyond and witness their individual and collective growth is one of the more rewarding things I am part of,” said NSI co-director, Blake Schierer. “Seeing these young women leave Lake Placid each summer better prepared to lead and to succeed in the next phases of their lives is something we take great pride in.”

The 2020 NSI athlete registration process is under way. Are you a Northstar Athlete? Do you know someone who is?
