2019 National Team - Lake Placid Champions

By Sweetlax Lacrosse , 08/08/16, 12:15PM EDT

Sweetlax 2018, 2019 & 2020 National Teams attended the Lake Placid tournament last week to wrap up their summer season. For the Coaching staff this weekend is a summer highlight as many attend to both Coach and participate as an Alumni player at the end of the week. It is a treat for all Sweetlax players to join the rest of the lacrosse world in Placid!

"All the young men were extremely receptive of the Coaching staff’s pointers and game plan. We were able to advance through the tournament and win the Championship because these players were coach-able, driven and unselfish. I wish every team I have ever coached had the kind of character and work ethic these players showcased in Lake Placid." - Sweetlax National Team 2019 Coach Joe Thon

Similar comments were shared by 2017 and 2018 Coaching staffs. Sweetlax Director of Recruiting Kevin Martin added, "This was a great way to end the summer as always. I was really proud to have 2 out of 3 of our teams make the Championships. It was particularly fun watching our 2017’s who will all be playing at the Collegiate level next year, same with our 2018’s. Our players continue to make us proud of the program and one of my favorite things is watching old players come back to Coach."

Syracuse University Goalie and Sweetlax Coach Willie Klan (USA U-19 Goalie) attended the tournament as both a Coach and a Player. He Coached the 2018 Sweetlax National team in the beginning of the week and then played with the Graph-tex team at the end of the week. "Lake Placid is a weekend where you get to sit back and appreciate the game. Because it is not a recruiting event, the pressure is off in a sense and you get to play the game you love. It feels like a family reunion going to Placid - any player that gets the opportunity to play at Placid, don't turn it down. The Placid tournaments have been some of my favorite lacrosse memories."

For a complete rundown on the weekend,

The Sweetlax National teams compete in non- recruiting tournaments in Lake Placid, Vail and Florida. Made up primarily of DI commits, it is an opportunity for players to compete with others who will be attending the same schools as well as compete against those you’ll be seeing at the College level. There are a number of Sweetlax National alum playing in the major College conferences who all share an experience of camaraderie and lacrosse at the highest level of competition.

Sweetlax invites are sent after the Lake Placid tournament in August in anticipation of the following year’s event. We’re often told that playing on Sweetlax’s National Team is one of the highlights of a high school experience.

Sweetlax Upstate is currently holding tryouts in Hamburg and Pittsford, NY. For more information on the tryout please visit,
