LAKE PLACID - USA Luge received 1,000 balls from Summit Lacrosse this week for its second annual Running of the Balls fundraiser, which will take place Saturday, Dec. 3 on the Mount Van Hoevenberg sliding track after Viessmann World Caup racing ends, according to Gordy Sheer, USA Luge director of marketing and sponsorships.
If more balls are needed, they will be supplied by Tri-Lakes Lacrosse.
"We should crush last year's total of 960 balls," Sheer wrote in an email on Tuesday.

People can adopt lacrosse balls in the chance one of their balls will cross the finish line first after negotiating the nearly one-mile course.
Starting around 1:55 p.m. on Dec. 3, the event will be covered live at www.usaluge.org and on the WSLP 93.3-FM airwaves.
On-site fans will be treated to coverage on large screens thanks to the International Luge Federation, Carr-Hughes Productions and the state Olympic Regional Development Authority.
Fans may enter as many balls as they'd like. The cost is $10 per ball or three balls for $25. Prizes range from $100 to $500.
Tickets are available at Lake Placid retail outlets, at USA Luge headquarters at 57 Church St. in Lake Placid and online at www.usaluge.org.
