Northstar Invitational Enters 7th Year as a Premier Girls Lacrosse Experience
In an ever-evolving world of youth, collegiate, and professional lacrosse, the Northstar Invitational has become a mainstay on the girls’ lacrosse landscape. Founded in 2012, the Northstar Invitational (NSI) has become one of the nation’s premier development and exposure opportunities for young women who are leaders both on and off the field.
NSI will return for its seventh consecutive year to the Northwood School in historic Lake Placid, July 23-July 26, 2018.
The Northstar Invitational has evolved over time - from the accelerated recruiting environment of NSI’s inception, to anticipating the recruiting “slow down”, to the passage of “Proposal 2017-1” in April 2017 (CLICK HERE for our Memo detailing the NCAA’s landmark decision).
What hasn’t changed is the NSI mission: Concentrate talented student athletes from all over the US & Canada, and offer them a first-class development experience. Combine exclusive competition, unique curriculum, boutique recruiting exposure, and perhaps most importantly, fun. Leverage successful individuals, who were once in these young athletes' shoes, and who can offer educational and inspirational value. Aim to play a meaningful development role for the next generation of leaders - lacrosse and beyond.
The NSI curriculum progresses each year, to include carefully engineered on and off-field sessions. Northstar features small-sided and full-field games, with a focus on teamwork, chemistry development, and maximizing team-oriented success. Other elements which make Northstar unique include the Northstar Performance Index (NPI), a partnership with both Victory Academy and Sports Recruits, and a longstanding relationship with mental fitness professional, Dr. Mara Smith. The culmination is a holistic experience which supports Northstar athletes in the endeavor to be their best. NSI aims for these selected players to leave Lake Placid as more informed, motivated, and confident individuals, with a sense of where they fall in the national landscape.
“Northstar seeks high quality leaders, and we revel in the opportunity to contribute to their development and success” explained Co-Founder, Ashley Gersuk Murphy. “Each year, we are inspired by the collection of talented, confident, respectful, strong, creative, and competitive student athletes. I believe our game is at an all-time high, and this is the next generation.”
The 2018 Northstar Invitational selection process is under way, with recommendations coming in from well-respected high school and club coaches from across the map. If history dictates, NSI competition will be as strong as ever. Invited student athletes will represent the highest caliber of 2020, 2021, and 2022 graduating classes from across the United States and Canada. Past Northstar athletes have left large shoes to fill, with over 250 Northstar Athletes having committed to Division I women’s lacrosse programs.
