The Northstar Invitational, hosted by Summit Lacrosse Ventures (SLV), was established in 2012 as a premier developmental and exposure opportunity, one of the first of its kind for young, high-level, female student athletes. The seventh annual 2018 Northstar Invitational will be held July 23-26 at the historic Northwood School in Lake Placid, New York.

Northstar has evolved each year since its 2012 inception, but it’s mission has withstood: calculated curriculum, concentrated competition, valuable education, and boutique recruiting exposure. Northstar has never been “just another camp” – between its holistic approach, which focuses on sports performance, leadership, inspiration, mental fitness, recruiting perspective, and relationship-building, its beautiful Adirondack setting, and the historic sports atmosphere at the core of Lake Placid, SLV aims for a truly unique experience. Perhaps more importantly, its intention is for athletes to leave Northstar with greater confidence, sparked passion, enhanced leadership responsibility, and added tools.

On-field sessions are competitive and constructive in format, to include full-field and small-field play, SPEED Lacrosse, and the Northstar Performance Index (NPI). The tailored format and intimate field proximity allow attending college coaches to see athletes play repeatedly throughout the day. Northstar hosts a blend of collegiate programs, representing a hybrid of conferences, geographies, academic and athletic calibers, and the typical ratio of attending college coach to athlete is approximately 1:6. A Northstar Champion is named, but of greater emphasis is overall team performance, development, and camaraderie.

Off-field sessions are equally as important to the Northstar experience. In addition to a Victory Leadership Academy session, widely respected mental fitness specialist, Dr. Mara Smith, brings tremendous perspective to athletes during her presentation. Having worked with countless Olympic athletes and Team USA programs, Smith knows what it takes to apply mental toughness at the highest level of competitive sports, and helps athletes integrate this element into their training. In addition to Mental Toughness session during Northstar, athletes have the opportunity to schedule an individual session with Dr. Smith. SLV media partner, Lacrosse Allstars, recently sat down with Mara Smith to discuss the importance of mental toughness for elite athletes. Click here for the Lax Allstars feature.

Northstar Athletes will also have the opportunity to sample Athletea, which is the result of a unique partnership between Dr. Mara Smith and Master Tea Blenders, Harney & Sons. Packed with electrolytes and antioxidants, the line of hydration teas supports the balance, energy, and focus needed to achieve peak athletic performance and recovery. SportsRecruits has been on the Northstar team from the get-go to offer professional guidance and services to help attendees navigate the recruiting process. SportsRecruits continues to be on the technological forefront of helping student athletes find the right college fit, at the highest possible level. In addition to filming all games at Northstar and hosting a pre-event recruiting webinar, all athletes will receive a trial subscription to the platform, allowing them to build a player profile, upload and share video, and message college coaches during the summer tournament season. At Northstar, parents are welcomed to the annual parent-specific Recruiting Process presentation, co-hosted by SLV and SportsRecruits, which is intended to give educated, objective, and nuanced perspective.

The old adage goes: Look good; feel good; play good! Overlooking the grammatical liberty, Northstar is pleased to announce an apparel partnership with Nike, the world’s largest apparel and footwear brand. Each athlete will receive a premium Nike Northstar apparel kit. In further support of Northstar’s mission, Nike intends to send one of their professional athletes to share their experiences with the next generation of female leaders.

Graph-Tex, Northstar’s exclusive screen printer, is responsible for making the Nike product come to life as Northstar Nike apparel. A longtime partner of both Lake Placid Summit and Nike, Graph-tex is known nationwide for their best-in-class, high-quality work. STX Lacrosse supports Northstar as an equipment and Champions award partner, along with Powell Lacrosse.

“I wish I was a Northstar athlete”, said SLV’s Brand Director and former Captain of Team USA, Kevin Leveille. “We are fortunate to be partnered with first-class, athlete-driven brands like Nike, Graph-Tex, STX and Powell Lacrosse”. “We are proud to host such high-quality student athletes from around the US and Canada”, continued Northstar Co-Founder and 2005 National Champion, Ashley Gersuk Murphy. “Our mission at Northstar is to support the development of these future leaders and offer them a world-class experience. With the support of our partners, we’re capable of making that happen”.

Attending student athletes have been selected from 500+ recommendations, and will represent the highest caliber of the 2020, 2021, and 2022 graduating high school classes from across the US and Canada. Past Northstar athletes have left large shoes to fill, with over 250 Northstar Athletes verbally committed to, or currently playing on Division I women’s lacrosse programs.
