Northstar Invitational Embarks on 8th Year of Valuable Student Athlete Development
2019 will mark Northstar's 8th year, and much has changed since Northstar was established in 2012; the continuously evolving talent and athleticism in lacrosse, the recruiting process, and even the game itself has progressed - both technically in rules, and stylistically in the way it’s played. As the sport continues to develop, the Northstar Invitational has become a mainstay on the girls’ lacrosse landscape by focusing on its core purpose: offer a unique, fun, and valuable experience, centered around exclusive competition, purposeful curriculum, and dynamic education. Founded in 2012, the Northstar Invitational (NSI) has become one of the nation’s premier development opportunities for young women who are leaders both on and off the field.
NSI will return for its eighth consecutive year to the Northwood School in Lake Placid, July 29 - August 1, 2019.
Each July, selected student athletes arrive from all over the US & Canada, to the historic Adirondack Olympic Village of Lake Placid, to join the ranks of Northstar athletes who have come before them, the majority of whom continue to impact the game at the highest collegiate and professional levels. The focus is competitive, productive, and collaborative development – each session, on and off the field, is implemented strategically and athletes are challenged to raise the bar, together, gaining experience from high-level play and atmosphere. Northstar athletes arrive to Lake Placid with a purpose, identified and recommended by a trusted network of coaches, welcoming the challenge and opportunity ahead.
While the NSI remains consistent in concept and format, it evolves each year, with a dynamic curriculum intended to maximize athletes’ experience. Northstar features small-sided and full-field games, with a focus on teamwork, chemistry development, and maximizing team-oriented success. Other elements which make Northstar unique include the Northstar Performance Index (NPI), and various partnerships designed to supplement a focus on Leadership, the Recruiting Process, Athlete Nutrition, and Mental Fitness. The culmination is a holistic experience which supports Northstar athletes in their endeavor to be the best. NSI aims for athletes to leave Lake Placid as more informed, motivated, and confident individuals, poised to make a positive impact as leaders.
“Northstar aims to offer developmental and inspirational value to attending student athletes, who have been identified as high-quality leaders” explained Co-Founder, Ashley Gersuk Murphy. “We revel in the opportunity to play a meaningful role in their progression and success, and take great pride in positively impacting the next generation of leaders, on and off the field.”
The 2019 Northstar Invitational selection process is under way, with recommendations coming in from well-respected high school and club coaches from across the map. Invited student athletes will represent the highest caliber of the 2021, 2022, and 2023 graduating classes from across the United States and Canada. Past Northstar athletes have left large shoes to fill, with hundreds of Northstar Athletes having committed to Division I women’s lacrosse programs.
